Geotextile

Introduction

In this project, geotextile was applied in combination with geomembrane to enhance water and soil conservation at the construction site. The integration of these two geosynthetics ensured effective anti-seepage, slope protection, and long-term stability of the engineered surface.

Role of Geotextile and Geomembrane in Construction

1. Seepage Control: Geomembrane provides an impermeable barrier that effectively prevents water infiltration and loss.

2. Protection Layer: Geotextile serves as a cushioning and protective layer for the geomembrane, avoiding punctures caused by stones or uneven ground.

3. Filtration and Separation: Geotextile allows water to pass while filtering soil particles, stabilizing the slope and preventing soil erosion.

4. Durability and Cost Efficiency: The combined use of geotextile and geomembrane improves structural durability and reduces maintenance costs.

Construction Method

1. Base Preparation: Clear vegetation, stones, and debris. Level and compact the foundation soil to ensure a stable surface.

2. Geotextile Laying: Spread the geotextile across the prepared surface, ensuring it lies flat without wrinkles. Overlap joints by 20–30 cm to maintain continuity.

3. Geomembrane Installation: Place geomembrane sheets on top of the geotextile. Ensure proper alignment and overlap by 10–15 cm. Weld seams using hot wedge welding, leaving test channels for inspection.

4. Anchoring and Fixing: Anchor both geotextile and geomembrane in trenches or with pressing plates at edges and slope tops. Ensure slope surfaces are tensioned to prevent sliding.

5. Inspection and Repair: Conduct air pressure or vacuum leak tests on welds. Repair any weak points immediately to ensure integrity.

Application Effect

After completion, the system effectively prevented soil erosion, stabilized slopes, and ensured long-term water and soil conservation. The protective function of geotextile greatly enhanced the durability of the geomembrane, reducing maintenance needs and achieving significant ecological and economic benefits.
