Introduction

In this project, cement blanket (also known as concrete canvas) was applied in road construction to achieve rapid hardening, slope protection, and long-term durability. Its flexible roll-form design allowed for easy installation and provided a reliable alternative to traditional concrete pouring.

Role of Cement Blanket in Construction

1. Rapid Construction: Cement blanket only requires hydration with water and hardens quickly, significantly reducing construction time.

2. Convenient Installation: Supplied in rolls, it can be cut and laid directly on site, adapting to different roadbed shapes and slope conditions.

3. Durability: Once hydrated, it forms a thin yet strong concrete layer with high compressive strength, abrasion resistance, and weather resistance.

4. Cost Efficiency: Reduces labor and equipment demand compared to traditional concrete works, lowering overall project costs.

5. Environmental Benefits: Minimizes dust, slurry, and waste, making it cleaner and more sustainable for construction sites.

Construction Method

1. Base Preparation: Clear debris, vegetation, and loose soil from the roadbed or slope surface. Compact and level the foundation to ensure proper contact.

2. Laying the Cement Blanket: Roll out the cement blanket along the designated roadbed or slope. Overlap adjacent sheets by 10–15 cm to ensure continuity.

3. Fixing and Anchoring: Anchor the edges with nails, stakes, or trenching, preventing movement during hydration. Ensure close contact with the base surface.

4. Hydration: Spray sufficient clean water onto the surface until the blanket is fully saturated. Ensure hydration occurs within the manufacturer’s recommended time window.

5. Curing and Inspection: Allow 24 hours for initial curing. Inspect for cracks, gaps, or insufficient hydration, and perform necessary repairs.

Application Effect

After construction, the cement blanket formed a uniform and durable concrete layer, effectively reinforcing the roadbed and protecting side slopes. It provided strong erosion resistance, improved road stability, and shortened the construction period. The project demonstrated significant advantages in speed, durability, and environmental performance compared with traditional concrete paving.
